2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD: Spy Shots, Release Date

For the 2020 model year, the GMC Sierra HD series, which includes the Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD, was completely redesigned. Since then, the truck has sold like hotcakes, with sales increasing year after year. Now, the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD will introduce a lot of updates, basically in every category. Even while the truck is doing well in the market, it does have a few flaws, which is why GM is working on a refresh.

First spy photos are already available and we had an opportunity to see the most recent facelift. The interior will also introduce dramatic upgrades, including a new cockpit. Furthermore, GM is reportedly working on improvements in terms of performance. We don’t know if the new engine will become available, or the current engine lineup will be improved. The sales will begin in the second half of 2022.

2023 Sierra 2500HD Spy Shots

The prototype of the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD wears a heavy camouflage. In fact, everything with the front of the A-pillars and behind the C-pillars is covered in vinyl camouflage. Based on the 18-inch wheels, this prototype is the most likely base trim level. It also seems to have the X31 Off-Road Package, as shown by the MT2 tires, visible Rancho monotube shocks at the back, and what appear to be underbody skid plates.

The front end of this 2023 GMC Sierra HD prototype has new headlights and what appears to be a redesigned grille. The rear bumper appears to be the same as on the present model, but new taillights will be on offer. The sheet metal tailgate is unlikely to suffer any sort of upgrade.

GM Prepares New Cockpit

The interior of the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD is also getting numerous updates. The spied prototype wears a lot of camouflage inside the cabin, implying that a new cockpit is on the way. The cockpit will be completely redesigned, with a brand-new center stack, new infotainment touchscreen, and new infotainment system.

On top of that, Sierra HD will introduce a new digital instrument cluster and numerous updates in terms of technology. We can’t confirm if the brand-new Super Cruise hands-free system will be on offer. Anyway, Sierra 2500HD will gain more standard features, a higher level of comfort, and better safety ratings.

Engine Improvements

In addition, we’ve learned that General Motors is upgrading the engine choices for the 2023 GMC Sierra 2500HD. We don’t know if the current lineup is getting better performances or the General Motors is preparing new powertrain option. Anyway, more details will become available in the coming months. Current Sierra HD offers a standard 6.6-liter V8 gasoline engine. This unit generates 400 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission is on offer, and Sierra will remain a rear-wheel-drive model.

Of course, AWD will be optional. A 6.6-liter V8 turbodiesel is optional. This powertrain develops 445 horsepower and over 900 lb-ft of torque. We expect to see an even higher level of torque, and the diesel engine comes with a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Sierra HD can tow up to 35,000 pounds, while gasoline engine tows slightly below 19,000 pounds.
