The electrification is on the way, and we expect great off-road ability from models such as GMC Hummer EV and Rivian R1T. For now, we are sticking to existing models with conventional powertrain options.
2023 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon
The upcoming 2023 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon is the first model on the list. This doesn’t mean the Rubicon variant is the best one you can get, but it is right there with other capable models. The Gladiator truck comes with numerous trim levels, and Rubicon is not the only off-road variant in the lineup. However, Rubicon is the most versatile one, in our honest opinion. It comes with a standard 4WD system and it also provides good towing capacity.
This truck gets 7,500 pounds of towing capacity, which is more than a solid figure for a mid-size truck. The interior is more than spacious and is also quite modern. Jeep also allows a lot of customization, which is always a good thing. A 3.6-liter V6 is very reliable, providing 20 mpg combined. Still, we think the Gladiator Rubicon costs more than most of its rivals in the segment, which is the only problem we can think of.
2023 GMC Sierra AT4X
GMC already offers the Sierra AT4 model. However, Sierra is more premium than most of its rivals, while the off-road capability of the AT4 model is far from class-leading.
