The upcoming 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will hit the dealerships at some point next year. Few weeks ago, a brand-new pickup truck was teased. The all-electric option will compete with the Ford F-150 Lightning, extending the rivalry between these two models on all fronts. In addition to the upcoming GMC Hummer EV, GM has confirmed an all-electric pickup in the near future.
We don’t know much about the upcoming Silverado EV. However, the new truck will undoubtedly borrow heavily from the Hummer EV while departing from its gasoline-powered buddy. This new model will reportedly provide a class-leading driving range and a more controversial appearance.
Silverado EV Will be a Unibody Truck
The brand-new 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will depart from the original Silverado 1500 truck. This is a new approach, as the F-150 Lightning looks almost like the regular gas-powered F-150 pickup truck. Anyway, Silverado EV will be a unibody model, instead of body-on-frame pickup as many expected. It will share a lot of things with the GMC Hummer EV model. The idea is to provide a smart design, which will improve forward visibility and much more. The front overhang will be shorter, although we don’t know the vehicle’s dimensions at the moment.
However, many reports are saying the all-electric version will be longer than the regular Silverado. Chevrolet will provide a multi-functional tailgate for sure. On top of that, every electric truck nowadays provides a popular “frunk.” The Silverado EV will be no different, but the Bowtie brand labels an “eTrunk” which is basically the same thing. The teaser image depicts a truck with subtle contouring that deviates significantly from the original Silverado 1500 pickup. However, let’s wait for the official photos and then make a judgment.
Driving Range and Towing Capacity
From what we know, the new 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will arrive in numerous trim levels. This means the models such as W/T and RST will offer a two-layer Ultium battery, which should provide over 400 miles of driving range. This is a serious improvement over the rivals such as Ford F-150 Lightning and Rivian R1T. Of course, Silverado will provide a smaller battery pack as well. Right now, Chevrolet didn’t say anything about exact engine specs.
However, this new Silverado EV will focus on driving range. This means we don’t expect to see class-leading towing and payload capacities. The Hummer EV will deliver a tri-motor setup, but Silverado EV will only use a pair of motors. Because of that, Silverado EV will not offer 1,000 horsepower. Instead, many experts are predicting around 665 hp and 780 lb-ft of torque.
The 2024 Chevy Silverado EV Will Be Available in 2023
The planned 2024 Chevy Silverado EV will be available in dealerships in late 2023, per source. This all-electric truck will compete with the Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, and Tesla Cybertruck. The price is not yet disclosed, but we anticipate many similarities between the Silverado EV and the GMC Hummer EV. The Silverado will most likely be less expensive than the new Hummer, but this is just another rumor at the moment.
