Although the 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning hasn’t been released yet, rumors about this electric truck have already started to circulate. The F-150 Lightning is the all-electric version of Ford’s popular F-150 truck, and its name pays homage to the high-performance Ford F-150 SVT Lightning model that was discontinued almost 20 years ago.
With the electric truck market heating up, the F-150 Lightning has a good chance of becoming a dominant player. Ford is already planning further improvements for this model, as competition from fully electric trucks from Rivian, GMC, Ram, and Chevrolet is also on the horizon.
Driving Range
According to the latest reports, the new 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning will gain a larger battery. Naturally, this will result in improved driving range. There are now two versions available right now, whereas the more expensive version provides around 320 miles of range on a single charge. Reportedly, the goal is to provide closer to 400 miles.
On the other hand, the main issue could be charging capability, or more precisely, charging speed. Some other electric trucks are offering a 220kW charging system, while the current F-150 Lightning has a 150kW variant. In any case, the next model will probably gain a bigger battery pack for an even better driving range.
Ford F-150 Lightning Power and Towing Capacity
It is unlikely that there will be significant changes to the electric motors and overall performance of the 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning. The base models will generate around 452 horsepower, while the more capable variants will have a maximum output of 580 horsepower. However, both versions will have the same 775 lb-ft of torque. These power figures will allow for impressive acceleration, with the more capable variant able to reach 60mph in just 4 seconds.
Despite the impressive performance, the Ford F-150 Lightning will still fall behind the diesel-powered F-150 in terms of towing and hauling capabilities. The base model will be able to tow just 7,700 pounds, while the most capable variants will only be able to tow up to 10,000 pounds.
Interior Refresh
The 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning will come equipped with lots of technology, but updates will be mostly minor. Blue Oval carmaker has already introduced over-the-air upgrades, and we expect to see additional safety features in the next model. The Blue Cruise option, which allows for hands-free driving, is a notable feature.
The FordPass app will also be updated, making it easier to find charging stations and control the vehicle remotely. The Onboard Scales feature is another valuable addition, as it calculates the weight of cargo being transported and displays the driving range accordingly. Currently, only the Lariat and Platinum trim levels offer the SYNC 4A infotainment system with a large 15.5-inch display, but it may become available in entry-level models as well.

The price of the new 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning will be higher than it is right now. Ford said the base model will start at $55,000, while the most expensive version will exceed $100k. This electric pickup truck will hit the roads at some point in the last quarter of the year.
