The Sierra HD has always been a good hauling and towing truck. However, that is about to change with the new 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X. This forthcoming model is off-road oriented, and it will directly compete with the Ram 2500 Rebel truck. The first spy shots are here, providing a mid-cycle facelift, numerous mechanical upgrades, and possibly additional power.
The AT4 trim level is also available, but the AT4X is more capable and not significantly more expensive. With a choice of two powertrain options, a premium interior, and aggressive styling, this is one of the best heavy-duty off-roaders ever made.
GMC Sierra HD AT4X Engine Specs
The 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X is available with either a gasoline or diesel engine. This is excellent news. The truck is built on the GM T1 design and comes standard with a 6.6-liter V8 gas engine. This powertrain option can generate 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. But, because this is an off-road truck, a diesel powertrain is a much better option. A 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 Duramax with 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque is the real deal.
Reportedly, this unit will provide an even higher level of torque in the future. The Allison 10-speed automatic transmission is used by all models. While the hauling and off-roading skills are impressive, this truck is rather thirsty. Nonetheless, 14 mpg combined is abysmal. Off-roading is said to reduce fuel economy to roughly 11 miles per gallon combined. Still, the AT4X is a supreme off-roader.
Interior Refresh
The cabin design of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X is quite pleasant. The large seats and leather upholstery on this off-road truck provide an extraordinary level of comfort. The front seats are extremely comfortable. The AT4X package includes a firmer suspension that absorbs virtually everything. Technology is also amazing.
There is a very modern head-up display as well as numerous sensors and cameras. GMC also includes standard navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a universal digital gauge cluster. Google powers the infotainment, which is snappy and quick. It has a 13.4-inch touchscreen and appears to be quite modern and upright. Finally, this model will include a high-quality Bose sound system. Therefore, this off-road variant provides a high level of luxury and lots of modern amenities.
Mid-Cycle Facelift
Visually, the 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X is very aggressive and modern at the same time. Right now, we saw a couple of spy photos, which are showing a mid-cycle refresh. Thanks to that, the next model will gain a couple of cosmetic upgrades, so we expect an even more dramatic appearance. The spied prototype wears 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler tires, new bumpers, and minor tweaks on the front fascia.
We also expect new exterior colors and additional optional equipment. Under the skin, the Sierra HD AT4X comes with MultiMatic DSSX shocks, improved suspension, and much more. It is a very capable truck, and it looks exactly like that.
2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X Release Date and Price
The price of the upcoming 2024 GMC Sierra HD AT4X will start at $55,000, and it will move up from there. The sales will begin later in 2023, most likely this fall. We are waiting to hear more details regarding the truck’s upgrades, but don’t expect a major redesign yet.
