The upcoming 2024 GMC Sierra HD is about to get a similar redesign to the smaller Sierra 1500 pickup truck. The biggest question is will the Sierra HD get the same interior design as its smaller sibling. Now, the first spy shots are here, so we have some answers. However, GMC opted for one big surprise, we’ll get to that in a minute.
The Sierra HD is a very upright truck, you can use it both as a lifestyle truck or as a workhorse. On top of that, it provides everything from the off-road capable AT4 trim level to a premium Denali version. We don’t know if some changes under the hood will happen. Still, we know a lot about this approaching model, so here’s everything you need to know.
GMC Sierra HD Spy Shots
The spy shots of the 2024 GMC Sierra HD are here. For a start, spied prototype wears the wheels of the PRO trim level. On the other hand, the side mirrors, chrome window trim, and chrome door handle appear to be from the SLT Sierra HD. The grille seems like it belongs on the Denali, but it’s been seen on nearly all of the Sierra HD prototypes so far, regardless of the trim level under evaluation.
The prototype also lacks the Denali’s normal running boards, implying that it is a trim level that slots below the Denali version. It is a confusing prototype because we don’t know which trim level has been spied. Anyway, some exterior upgrades are about to happen and we can’t wait to see more details in the future.
Interior Changes
Luckily, the new 2024 GMC Sierra HD will borrow lots of interior cues from the Sierra 1500 sibling. An infotainment touchscreen is a 13.4-inch unit, which is great. Moreover, the dashboard sports the same layout, along with the arrangement of buttons. By looking at the HVAC vents, it appears we are dealing with the base trim level. However, a touchscreen is too big for the entry-level model. One big surprise that we mentioned is the column shifter.
Models such as GMC Sierra 1500 or Silverado 1500 are offering column shifter but without a large 13.4-inch display. This Sierra HD prototype sports the column shifter while retaining a bigger infotainment touchscreen. It could be that the GMC is playing with us. On the other hand, it could be a huge step forward for this heavy-duty truck.
Under the Hood
Under the hood, the new 2024 GMC Sierra HD should offer the same engine lineup. This means the truck will have the same two powertrains. The base engine is a 6.6-liter V8 gasoline engine with 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. If you want even more power, there is an optional 6.6-liter V8 turbodiesel unit.
This one is capable of producing 445 horsepower and up to 910 lb-ft of torque. The 2024MY could bring even more torque, but this is just a rumor at the moment. Right now, a maximum towing capacity of 36,000 pounds sounds good, but improvements are always a possibility. As before, you can choose between a 6-speed or 10-speed automatic transmission.
2024 GMC Sierra HD Price, Release Date
We believe that the 2024 GMC Sierra HD will cost more than its predecessor. Therefore, the price should start at $42,000 or slightly above that. The sales will begin next summer, and the manufacturer will reveal more details closer to the official launch date.
