Nowadays, it is a completely different story, as the segment is full of premium models, not to mention the upcoming all-electric trucks.
Therefore, Mercedes is ready to give it another try. At this moment, everything you read is a rumor, as the German manufacturer didn’t reveal official details of any kind. It would be nice to see the comeback of the X-Class model, and here’s what to expect.
Mercedes-Benz X-Class – What is It?
The original model arrived in 2017, but it was discontinued three years later. The reason is slow sales, which isn’t surprising. As we said, times are different now, so luxury pickup truck makes more sense. The 2024 Mercedes-Benz X-Class could easily find a way through tough competition, no doubt about it. Mercedes opted for a mid-size truck, but we don’t know if that’s the case this time.
The truck was based on the global Nissan Navara model, something that won’t happen anymore. Bringing back the old nameplate is a popular move by many automakers. Mercedes is no different. Unfortunately, all we can do is speculate, as Mercedes is silent on this topic. In any case, if the X-Class truly arrives, we expect a completely different approach from the German manufacturer.
Exterior and Interior
The brand-new 2024 Mercedes-Benz X-Class will look nothing like the previous generation. Of course, Mercedes will deploy similar styling cues and recognizable exterior elements. However, this time the X-Class would sit on a different platform, while the truck’s size shouldn’t change that much. The previous model was largely based on the Nissan Navara pickup, but that won’t be the case this time. Therefore, we expect to see a more futuristic approach, while maintaining the truck’s premium appearance.
On the inside, Mercedes won’t fail, as every brand’s model is very upright and modern. Trucks are no longer workhorses, it is a lifestyle, so interiors are usually quite upscale. The X-Class would benefit from higher use of premium materials, larger displays, and additional safety aids. The result is a new X-Class with an SUV-like cabin, offering a high level of comfort, lots of space, and much more.
Engine Specs
The upcoming 2024 Mercedes-Benz X-Class could arrive as an all-electric model. This is just a wild guess, but it makes perfect sense. Whatsoever, Mercedes already offers the EQ lineup of electric vehicles, including EQE and EQS variants. This could be a game changer, but we wouldn’t complain if the carmaker opts for a traditional engine lineup or some sort of hybrid.
There are so many possibilities at the moment. Previous generations offered 3.0-liter V6 diesel and 2.3-liter diesel engines. And while some sort of turbodiesel engine is a good solution, pairing one of the engines with an electric motor and creating a hybrid model is a more likely outcome.
2024 Mercedes-Benz X-Class Release Date and Price
In 2020, the X-Class truck was available for about $50,000. As this is a luxury model, the 2024 Mercedes-Benz X-Class could cost slightly above that. The price would be significantly higher if the X-Class arrives as an all-electric model. No official words yet, but many reports are predicting a huge comeback in the first half of 2024.
